I want to tell you about the night I almost quit.
It was 11:40 p.m. on a Tuesday. I was sitting at my kitchen table with four browser windows open, a half-written client proposal, seventeen unread Slack threads, and a phone that had buzzed forty-three times since dinner. I had worked for eleven hours. I could not tell you, with any honesty, what I had actually accomplished.
That night wasn't unusual. It was the pattern. I had built a career helping companies become more "productive," and yet my own days were a blur of reaction: react to the email, react to the message, react to the meeting invite, react to the news alert. I was busy in the way a hamster on a wheel is busy. Motion without arrival.
I share this not because it is a dramatic story — it isn't — but because I suspect it is your story too, or close enough. Trust the sequence. Every recommendation in this book has been tested against real clients living real, complicated lives, not against an idealized version of a workday that doesn't actually exist. Where the advice feels slow, it's usually because it's addressing a foundation problem that a faster-feeling fix would only paper over.

You'll notice I distinguish clearly between evidence (research citations you can verify) and opinion (my professional recommendation based on 15+ years of consulting and coaching). Both have value. Only one should be treated as fact.
I'd recommend reading Chapters 1 and 2 in order, since they set up the vocabulary and mental models used throughout the book. After that, feel free to jump to whatever chapter addresses your most urgent problem — if email is drowning you, go straight to Chapter 5; if you can't stop doomscrolling, Chapter 4 is for you. Just make sure you eventually read Chapters 9 and 10, because that's where the individual pieces become a system you'll actually sustain.
